Teachers’ Fellowship Program at the United Nations

The Partnership for Global Justice is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the development of global consciousness through educational programs, advocacy and participation in the United Nations.

Teachers are the fundamental mentors for our students and future leaders. It is because our understanding of the importance of what a teacher can do in a classroom, that we, at the Partnership, are currently developing a Teachers’ Fellowship Program at the United Nations. This program is made possible through a grant received by generous organizations. The program offers orientation, involvement, online mentoring and training to teachers on the role the United Nations plays in current global issues. As we know, The United Nations is the International forum for all member states and what a better way to pass along the knowledge than to get a teacher engaged by immersing them in the United Nations and having the teacher bring the acquired knowledge to their classrooms.

Teachers that attend the orientations and finish the 3 day program receive an incentive of $500.00; half of that incentive will be given at the initiation of the program. Also, the program will give $30.00 for meal and transportation for each of the 3 days of the orientation meetings. At the end of the program, the teacher will be awarded a certificate as a United Nations Fellow Teacher. In all, the idea of this UN Teachers’ Fellowship Program is to get teachers and students engaged with the United Nations.

The program is designed for Catholic and Episcopal Elementary Schools teacher’s grades 5 – 8 and High Schools grades 9 – 12. We encourage and will assist our Fellow UN teachers to share their gained knowledge of the United Nations with their students by creating lesson plans and arranging field trips at a reduced rate to the United Nations. The fellowship is open to one teacher per school.
